Morganite and diamond ring. Morganite is a variety of beryl, alongside its more widely known relatives aquamarine and emerald. What distinguishes morganite within its family is its pink hue, caused by traces of the element Manganese. Morganite is a very rare stone, only discovered in 1910, and the name was chosen by Tiffany’s chief gemologist George Frederick Kunz in honour of one of his best customers and patrons, the hugely influential banker JP Morgan. This particular morganite is of substantial size, around 10 carats, and its attractive peachy hue is testament to its lack of heat treatment. Secure within its gold collet setting and surrounded by a ring of collet-set brilliant-cut diamonds weighing a total of approximately 1.40 carats, this makes for an unusual and beguiling take on the classic cluster ring, thanks to its fascinating centre stone.
