A charming pair of Mid-Century Staffordshire Cats by Arthur Wood, a respected English pottery house established in 1884 and known for finely modelled decorative ceramics. Sitting upright with gentle expressions, these cats feature hand-painted black markings, ribbon collars, and softly contrasting yellow eyes, giving them a calm and elegant presence.
This particular design by Arthur Wood is far more commonly seen in dog version, making the cat version especially hard to find. The clean white glaze and restrained black detailing give the pair a timeless look that works beautifully in both classic and contemporary interiors, whether styled on a shelf, sideboard, or mantel.
Each piece bears an Arthur Wood England backstamp on the base, confirming their origin and quality.
Each
(W) 7.5cm
(H) 13.5cm
(D) 5cm
Both cats are in very good vintage condition overall. The glaze remains glossy and the painted details are well preserved. The right cat shows light age-related crazing, which adds to the vintage character of the piece and is typical of ceramics from this period. Minor wear to the bases is consistent with age and use.
