A significant and boldly scaled original painting by Geri Taper (American, 1929–2004) — four canvases mounted together to form a single commanding horizontal composition featuring colorful Asian-style script writing over a vibrant ground of blue, red, yellow, and green. Signed and dated 1981 on the verso. Presented in a wood frame. Work size: 41.25" × 80".
Geri Taper was a Pittsburgh-based painter and printmaker whose work over five decades engaged deeply with text, calligraphy, and the visual energy of written language as abstract form. Her script paintings — in which gestural marks derived from Asian calligraphic traditions are layered over intense color fields — are among her most resolved and collectible works. The four-canvas format here gives the composition an architectural weight and a seriality that reads as deliberate and sophisticated: each panel holds its own while the four together create a unified, rhythmic whole.
At over six and a half feet wide, this is a work that commands wall space rather than filling it — the kind of painting that defines the character of a room.
Good overall condition with normal surface wear. Frame shows average storage wear to edges and corners. Estate fresh to market.
