SR-71 Blackbird, Serial #61-7971, is one of the most celebrated aircraft in aviation history. Known for its incredible speed (Mach 3.35) and altitude capabilities (85,000 feet), it was designed as a strategic reconnaissance aircraft for the U.S. Air Force during the Cold War.

Built by Lockheed’s Skunk Works, the SR-71 was delivered in 1966 and served with distinction for several decades. During its career, 61-7971 was used in critical reconnaissance missions, flying at high speeds and altitudes to gather intelligence while evading enemy defenses. Its sleek, aerodynamic design and radar-absorbing black coating made it an unparalleled force in the skies.

After its official retirement, 61-7971 found a new purpose with NASA, where it was used for research and testing in the 1990s. The aircraft’s legacy lives on through its iconic design and the role it played in pushing the boundaries of aviation.
