An absolutely charming c.1870 hand-painted Staffordshire of c. H. Spurgeon, hand upright, preaching from the famed Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit.
Each of these porcelains issued by Staffordshire was entirely unique, glazed and painted by hand in a variety of color schemes and qualities.
Interestingly, he here has the right hand extended upward in a pose identical to that recommended to the aspiring preachers at Spurgeon's College via his Lectures to My Students.
Some abrasions, paint flaking and loss, and generalized cracquelure as usual and expected. Very solid.
