Hundreds of dogs faced certain death when a river in Kropyvnytskyi, Ukraine flooded their shelters this week. A large-scale rescue operation, with over 20 rescuers working through the night, was able to evacuate all of the pets from the BIM animal shelter by boat. Local residents stepped in, offering temporary and permanent foster homes.
At the Happy Dog Shelter, staff were able to get dogs above the water using pallets, while evacuating others to a building that didn't flood.
For many of these poor dogs, this isn't the first time they've faced deadly tragedies. Some of them were rescued from flood waters after Russia blew up the Kakhovka dam and many more have been rescued from the frontlines.
The water hasn't stopped rising and rescuers continue to work tirelessly to protect these pets. Our partner, Greater Good Charities, has already sent 1200 kilograms of food and is sending more supplies to help these beleaguered rescuers and dogs. Will you help too?
