A rather rare little work on preaching by Nicholas Murray, dedicated to Gardiner Spring, and this copy with a fascinating provenance. Apparently looted as spoils of war by Reuben King Tanquary [1838-1908] of Company K in the 34th Indiana Infantry after the Battle at Jackson as part of the Vicksburg Campaign in 1863.
Inscribed in faint sepia ink on the ffep, then transcribed in a later hand on the fly leaf. Also includes an interesting little tract, probably in use among Civil War Soldiers, written by influential Civil War Methodist, Bishop Matthew Simpson.
Inscription.
