From 1943-45 Duxford Airfield was home to the U.S.A.A.F. 78th Fighter Group. Not only did they bring the might of American Air Power but also the nations pastime – baseball!
In 1943 an E.T.O. (European Theatre of Operation) World Series was organised and held over a four day period. The tournament featured some twenty teams, including the 78th Fighter Group station ball team – known as the Thunderbolts.
The Duxford Thunderbolts would go on to play against the 116th Infantry Regiment Yankees in final at Bushy Park, London.

We have collaborated with Papa Nui Cap Co to produce a ball cap inspired by this story.
These caps are hand crafted in Japan from 100% wool and Papa Nui’s Army Duck Cloth visor lining for superior styling options. ‘78TH’ and ‘Thunderbolt’ devices are cut from felt and stitched to the cap in the style of the Army Air Force ball caps from the period.
