Very early handbill / broadside of John Pierpont's 1842 hymn to water, We Sing the Praise of Water. Originally published in The Cold Water Melodies, and Washington Songster [1842], a temperance work compiled by Pierpont, the song was designed to promote both the consumption of water as an alternative to alcohol, and the health benefits of water more generally [i.e. the water cure movement].
The broadside / handbill version of it offered here, given nearly all the material it came with is dated from the early 1840's as well, likely of the same or nearly the same date as its appearance in The Cole Water Melodies, i.e. 1842.
In a very good state, folded with corner turned, small tear at head of middle fold. Else fine with some light handling and foxing. Scarce. We trace no other examples.
