La Comarcal is a relatively new small project from a couple of friends, Javi Revert (Celler del Roure) and Víctor Marqués (Casa Lo Alto and ex-Celler del Roure). With the new releases they are making a couple of higher quality Valencia DO wines and then some more regional less expensive blends. This is a lovely debut release - a blend of c70% Garnacha and c30% Monastrell, fermented and aged in concrete tank and eggs. A floral, red berry-fruited wine from high-altitude sites around the village of La Font de la Figuera, just outside of Valencia. It has savoury, bitter-herb, Amaro-like notes and a juicy, fresh finish. Elegant style with a lovely core of fruit.
