The third and final album of this incarnation of the band, originally released in 1999. A much more melodic Description: record than the previous two. The band closed out the 20th century with California, a deceptively more approachable album that seems (on the surface) like a more conventional Mr. Bungle, consisting of some of the band's catchiest and most traditionally melodic songs to date. Deeper listens, though, reveal a record that is just as arcane, inventive and multifaceted as the band's preceding work. California is almost certainly the only album ever made that references both Burt Bacharach and Balinese chant music.
