This elegant ceramic cat figurine was produced under the Coopercraft trade name by Summerbank Pottery, Stoke-on-Trent, around 1970. With its finely modelled fur and distinctive hand-painted features, the piece captures the quiet poise of a Persian-type cat. The soft pink eyes give it a particularly charming expression, adding warmth and character to any interior.
Summerbank Pottery began in 1946 when William Henry Bailey traded as a pottery wholesaler in Tunstall, and the business continued through several generations of ownership until its closure in 2004. Alongside decorative figurines, the pottery became known for wall ornaments such as the popular sets of three flying ducks that were a staple of mid-century British interiors. In 1970, the Coopercraft trade name was introduced for a wide range of animal figures, with over 140 designs created, especially cats and dogs.
