The elongated shape of this ring has its origins in the 18th century boat-shaped ‘navette’ rings of the 18th century. This version, with its curving, leaf-like contours, is clearly informed by Art Nouveau, a turn-of-the-century movement characterised by aesthetically stylised naturalism, and sinuous, dramatic lines. The unusual cuts of the outer emeralds are a particularly rare feature. The outer emeralds are extraordinary as they slightly curve to fit the contours of the ring’s outline - a difficult and expensive feat for a lapidary to accomplish with any gemstone. To finish it off, a line of beautifully matched circular-cut diamonds down the centre, bordered by four marquise-shaped emeralds, paired like newly sprouted leaves, some smaller diamond accents and a delicate millegrain border. This is a miniature masterpiece, it is romantic and unique making it a wonderful choice for an antique engagement ring.
