Granthi refers to the knots in the subtle body, blocking the flow of prana (life energy) through the Sushumna nadi, the central psychic channel. These knots hinder the Yogi’s progress toward spiritual enlightenment and liberation.

• There are three main Granthis: Brahma Granthi, Vishnu Granthi, and Rudra Granthi, each causing an obstruction at different energy centers in the body.
• Vishnu Granthi is governed by the Anahata (heart) and Vishuddha (throat) chakras. This knot is associated with ego and the desire for material possessions, keeping a person entangled in the world of desire.
• Yoga helps to untie the Granthis, transcending ego, possessiveness, and selfishness. This is done through specific asanas (yoga poses) and pranayama (breathing exercises).
• The Vishnu Granthi Yantra is depicted with a Yogi and the animal symbols related to the Anahata and Vishuddha Chakras: antelope (for gentleness) and white elephant (for strength and wisdom).
