Its role was precise: to demonstrate capability, reliability, and compliance with strict military specifications during the selection process that would ultimately lead to a large-scale supply contract.

This exact example is understood to be the final iteration of those prototypes—the most refined expression of Gallet’s proposal. It embodies the culmination of testing, feedback, and technical adjustment, making it not just rare, but structurally significant within the decision-making chain that defined what would be issued to thousands of soldiers. A decisive detail, however, influenced that outcome. Despite meeting technical requirements, this configuration was ultimately not selected in favor of alternatives such as Marathon Watch and Adanac. The reason is as specific as it is telling: the five stars present on the dial were reportedly not appreciated by the U.S. high command, leading to its exclusion. A subtle design element, but one that proved critical in a context where symbolism and clarity of identification carried weight alongside performance.

What truly separates this piece is its documented institutional history. Rather than entering private circulation, it was formally transferred to the National Watch and Clock Museum, where it remained from 2009 until recently. This is critical.
