A nice Mark Canfield (Red Willow and Co.) fly rod, 7'6", 2-piece, 2-tip, built for a #5 line. 4.3 oz. This rod shows signs of light use, mostly some grip soiling. Very fast D F action. Serial #480. The tube data sticker indicates the rod was made from pre-WWII E. C. Powell cane. The bamboo has a light flame treatment and 3 up node pattern. The varnish work is of excellent quality, some of the best I have seen. Brown main wraps with an agate stripper and bronze snake guides. The keeper is one flat right. The keeper wrap has an edge of light brown and then black with windaways that are light brown, black, brown jasper, black, and brown. The rod is lettered "M Canfield Spring Creek Guide" on the wrap flat. The ferrules are swiss-style and oxidized black. The grip is 6" 12 corks long and a blunt cigar shape weighted to the front. The reel seat is a black oxidized cap and ring with a mortised, varnished koa wood spacer. In a nice touch, a horseshoe is stamped on the bottom of the butt cap. On the cap there is also a roller die stamp "Red Willow & Co, M. Canfield, Rodmaker" which is 2 flats to the left. The rod serial # is lettered below the female ferrule and at the male ferrules it is also stamped onto the cork and aluminum ferrule plug as well as the top of the brass tube cap. The rod comes with a maroon cloth rod bag with a leather pull tab. The red willow data sticker is fixed to the top of the rod tube.
