The unheated Burmese ruby at the centre of this ring is of exceptional quality, weighing just over one carat, with a richly saturated, deep red tone, excellent clarity and a well-proportioned cut. Surrounding this rare stone is a double border of millegrain-set single-cut diamonds, subtly pierced between the borders, ensuring that maximum prominence is given to the stones, with minimal metal visible. The lightness of the workmanship in this ring was made possible by the use of platinum, which had only been recently discovered, and revolutionised jewellery design in the opening years of the 20^th century.
