This exceptional pair of Staffordshire Dogs by William Kent showcases the timeless elegance of English pottery. With beautifully hand-painted gilded brushstroke motifs, expressive faces, and finely detailed coats, these figures exude a sense of sophistication and charm, standing out among many other Staffordshire dogs. Their graceful presence and striking appearance make them a perfect addition to any antique collection, classic mantelpiece, or elegant interior setting.
These figures bear the William Kent backstamp, a mark of quality craftsmanship. William Kent & Co. was a distinguished British pottery manufacturer, active from 1894 to 1962, best known for producing Staffordshire Ware figurines, including dogs, cats, and flat-back ornaments. Unlike modern reproductions, these pieces reflect the authentic character and artistry of mid-20th-century English ceramics, making them highly sought after by collectors.
This pair measures approximately 26cm tall and features fine white crazing, a distinctive technique intentionally applied by William Kent to enhance the antique aesthetic, as seen in many of their other works. The hand-painted gilt detailing remains beautifully vibrant, adding depth and elegance to their already captivating design.
One of the dogs has a very fine hairline on the back of the neck and a small short hairline on the leg, as shown in the photos. Considering their age and size, these are minor imperfections that do not affect the structure or display of the figures. However, the price has been adjusted accordingly.
This pair has been marked as Reserved for now. If you are interested in similar pieces, please explore our Staffordshire Dogs & Staffordshire Cats Collection.

This pair of Staffordshire Dogs is in very good vintage condition, featuring intentionally applied antique crazing, a well-known William Kent technique used to enhance their period charm. One dog has a fine hairline on the back of the neck and a small short hairline on the leg, but these do not impact stability or display.
The gilded brushstroke motifs remain vibrant and beautifully preserved, adding to their elegant appeal. There is only a tiny bit of colour fade on one tail, but it is subtle and barely noticeable unless closely inspected. The overall gilt detailing still presents exceptionally well, maintaining the refined look of these figures. Please refer to all photos for details.
