This publication re-examines climate control through the lens of urban climate phenomena throughout the 20th century. Drawing on the history of large-scale climate regulation in cities, it advocates for greater integration between indoor and outdoor spaces to mitigate thermal stress in urban environments.
The first section explores the interwar period in Europe, while the second presents global case studies, highlighting the increasing importance of ecological thinking in urban design. The book is the result of a six-year research project on architecture and urban climate, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation.
