Introducing the Wasp Aircraft Carrier Model Kit!
[From the manufacturer:]
Wasp was the final aircraft carrier produced under the Washington Naval Treaty as the U.S. was still permitted 15,000t to build a carrier at the time. She was laid down in April 1936 at the Fore River Shipyard, and commissioned in April 1940 at the Army Quatermaster Base. Wasp was the first carrier fitted with a deck edge elevator, armed with 8 A~ 5` 38 cal guns, 16 A~ 1.1` 75 cal anti-aircraft guns, and 24 A~ .50` machine guns. In September 1942, she got struck by a spread of six Type 95 torpedos from the B1 Type submarine I-19. Explosions and fires broke out, and the heat of the intense gasoline fires detonated the ready ammunition. The ship was sunk by a torpedo launched by her alley Lansdown, which was ordered to do so by Admiral Noyes.
