A small tapered mug shape designed for everyday use. These tapered mugs are smaller and cosy with a raised slip design for a more tactile experience. Our white glaze contains local crushed rock adding to the texture and handmade quality of this design. The crushed rock glaze creates subtle, organic differences from mug to mug. The rock settles in its own way, giving each piece a unique character.

PĀTIKI MUGS

Pātiki design represents the Pātiki or flounder. It is a symbol of generosity, hospitality and abundance. This pattern is designed to represent tukutuku stitch or hand embroidery, both skills taught to me by my Nan and Grandmother. This pattern reminds me of home, whānau and protection. Originally designed as an embroidery pattern for oracle collection garments before being adapted to fit on the new mug shape.

The pattern is applied with slip free form onto the surface of the clay and are handmade by Sarah Wigley in her Te Whanganui-a-Tara studio. Each mug will be slightly different, especially in the layout of the pattern.

Mugs are handmade and each uniquely different. Photos aim to show all glaze and design finishes as accurately as possible.
