He obtained a significant Adventist / Millerite following after the release of the present work. It seems one Great Disappointment, wait, two Great Disappointments, just weren't enough. Here he attempts to demonstrate why Christ's Second Coming will happen on September 27, 1868. The Fifth Enlarged Edition, as here, was the final articulation before the day passed . . . uneventfully.

Superb full page engraving of Daniel's "Great Image" tied to the Babylonian, Roman, etc., empires, climaxing with the events of the Civil War, etc., It does seem that the maxim that all eschatology is local remains true, without exception.

For its immense popularity, it is scarce in the trade; not at auction since the 1920's and none on the market at the time of cataloguing.
