Renowned artist Yuki Kihara, the first transgender and Samoan representative for New Zealand at the Venice Biennale, reimagines an iconic Western moment. Kihara's interdisciplinary art deconstructs gender norms, colonial legacies, and (mis)representations in the Pacific. In New Zealand's debut at the 59th International Art Exhibition in Venice, Kihara's innovative work tackles contemporary issues.

In this accompanying publication, editor Natalie King has gathered global contributors to explore themes in Kihara's art, including race, gender, decolonisation, and more. The book contextualises Kihara's work, which challenges established narratives and turns history upside down.

Contributors hail from diverse regions, including Tahiti and Aotearoa, featuring prominent figures like Coco Fusco, Chantal Spitz, Patrick Flores, and Natalie King OAM, who edited the book.
