A nice E.F. Payne model 202 bamboo fly rod, 8', 3-piece, 2-tip, and built for a #5 line. The rod weighs 4 ounces on my scale. Medium action. The rod has been re-wrapped and re-varnished and the grip has been sanded clean. Brown main wraps with yellow edges and a band of purple at the keeper and male ferrules. Agate stripper and black snakes, some with wear and some not. The ferrule fits are good and the oxidation is 98%. The western-style grip is 6" long with a hidden pocket cap. As mentioned, the grip has been sanded. The Spanish Cedar insert is varnished with a bit of roughness from bag impression. The uplock aluminum screwlock is stamped "Payne" in cartouche and "Reg. U.S. Pat Off." The rod packs into the original olive poplin bag which still has the hang tag. The aluminum tube has a gray felt insert. This rod would be a pleasure to fish all day.
