An EF Payne model 201 bamboo fly rod, 8', 3-piece, 2-tip and built for what feels to me like a #5 line. 4.4 ounces. No hang tag but the specifications suggest that this is a model 201 and I have listed it as such. Medium action. "Made for Abercrombie & Fitch" so a circa 1960's model. Used condition and has been refinished. The rod looks to have been re-wrapped and re-varnished. The grip has had some filler applied to the pores in a few places and the wrap color seems just a few shades lighter than the original. The snakes guides have some wear to the insides. One tip has two issues, first what appears to be a crack in a node just above the ferrule, and second, a small area of varnish loss just below the tip-top. The ferrule oxidation retains about 95% of the original and the fits are good. The grip is hand soiled and 6" long, shaped to a western profile. The seat is spanish cedar with aluminum uplocking hardware with a hidden pocket cap. The nut is stamped "Payne" in a cartouche, and "Reg US Pat Off" and on the reverse "Made for, Abercrombie & Fitch". No ferrule plugs. The rod is put up in a non-original bag and tube.
