Critical Installation Steps

For the KeelGuard to stay attached for the life of the boat, prep is everything:

1. Etching: You must scuff the gelcoat with the included pad to remove wax and create "tooth" for the adhesive.

2. Cleaning: Use isopropyl alcohol to remove all dust and oils.

3. Priming: Apply the 3M® primer only to the area where the guard will sit.

4. Placement: The leading edge should start roughly 4 to 6 inches above the waterline on the bow and run back along the keel.

5. Curing: Avoid putting the boat in the water for at least 24 hours after installation.

Is your boat currently on a trailer with center rollers?

If your trailer has rollers that contact the keel directly, you must ensure the KeelGuard does not rest on a roller when the boat is fully loaded, as the constant pressure can compromise the adhesive.
