History of The Wyandotte Chicken

The Wyandotte Chicken originates from the United States but no one really knows what breeds were used to breed the wyandotte into existence.

The wyandottes were first reported in the 1900s with the first varieties being the Silver Laced Wyandotte variant. Being both large fowl and bantams.

They have chunky rounded bodies and are fully feathered. The hens have a deep breast and backside which shows that they are good layers. Wyandotte chickens have deep yellow legs, short neck, rose comb which all wyandottes have, red ear lobes with reddish eyes. 

Wyandotte Chicken Behavior

Wyandotte chickens are also found in large fowl they are quite docile in nature. The hens lay really well and they go broody really easy and will quite happily sit a large clutch of eggs. They are also very good mothers to their chicks which helps the chicks grow fast and strong.

Because they are bantam and also large fowl these silver laced wyandottes are not true bantams. But they are stunning hens and are very proud as you can see in the image they have a very curvy body.

Lots of chicken keepers only keep the wyandotte variety of chicken, there are so many colours its hard to remember them all.?

They are also perfect in bantam size for small gardens as some of the large fowl can be very large indeed.
