A rare green zircon and diamond ring, early 20th century. Zircons, not to be confused with the diamond simulant cubic zirconia, are natural stones. They have with a long and distinguished history, prized for their superb lustre, their diamond-like dispersion and their range of beautiful body colours. The structure of zircons breaks down over millennia, and the oldest tend to turn to an attractive deep green over time. These are usually known as ‘metamict’ zircons, and are millions of years old. Set in a simple three-stone ring, the beautiful colour of this charming and unusual stone is offset beautifully by a pair of brilliant-cut diamonds and a warm yellow gold band.
Why I love it...
”Until this ring came along, I’ve never had the pleasure of selling a green zircon! In my opinion, this ring is so sophisticated. I love the shade of green, a natural green zircon is so rare and a specimen like this can take 4 billion years to form. Incredible."
