Original Coil Conversion Kit 2.0 by Metal-tech 4x4. In late 2007 Metal-tech 4x4 invented the Original bolt-in conversion kit for Lexus GX's. Now, 15yrs later we have updated the design with an easier to install and higher performance machined aluminum body and precision machined custom coil isolator. The key difference is the top of the new aluminum centering puck featuring a recessed countersunk bolt mount, creating a flat striking face for the secondary spring (cone thing inside the top of the coil spring). This new flush face keeps the bolt from damaging the secondary spring on contact. In addition, the hardware included in the kit features a slim nylock (aircraft nut) that is much easier to install than the previous design. The kit is 100% CNC machined in the USA from US made material. The isolator used in the Metal-tech 4x4 kit was updated in 2022, we eliminated the rubbery off the shelf poly isolator.  Soft poly isolators can be too soft for some springs pigtails, leading them to crack the spring.   We moved to a CNC machined isolator cut from UHMW (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene). This is a high-performance aerospace plastic that is perfect for this application. By custom machining the parts in house at Metal-tech 4x4, we were able to increase the flange size to better support the bottom of the coil spring. Most importantly with the UHMW machined isolator is the springs pigtail is properly supported with no chance of it cracking the spring.

STAGE 2

Metal Tech 4x4 has introduced a complete bolt on rear coil conversion kit for your GX470 to get a true 2" lift with a coil spring and no longer have to deal with leaky air bags.  With the Lexus GX470 becoming popular among the off road community, people are looking to put a suspension lift on these very capable 4x4s.  The GX470's came with factory air bags in the rear which are prone to leaking over time and can be very expensive to replace.  Another problem when a person lifts the front of the GX470, the air bags in the rear have to be at their max ride height to keep a level stance.

The Metal Tech 4x4 Lexus GX470 Rear Coil Conversion Kit solves all these issues by removing the air bags and in place: stock height coil spring or 2-3" lift spring can be put in place.  We achieve this by reproducing what Toyota developed for the Toyota, Prado, 4Runner and FJ Cruiser rear suspension setup.  First there is a bolt on spring locator that mounts to the axle housing with a polyurethane spring tail isolator that slips over for the bottom of the coil spring to rest on.  On top we use the Key Cones that keep the spring in place and acts a secondary dual rate spring when the axle comes in hard contact when coming off a ledge.

This Lexus GX470 rear coil conversion kit is designed to be used for people who want to get rid of their air bags all together and go to a traditional coil spring at factory ride height or for those that are looking to lift the rear end.  This is kit is 100% bolt on with no additional modifications required.  If your intended purpose to is lift the rear end, you will need to disconnect the ride height control computer that is located in the driver side kick panel and the fuse/relay inside the engine bay.

STAGE 3

Metal Tech 4x4 developed and introduced the original complete bolt-on Lexus GX470 rear coil conversion kit to eliminate leaky air bags. The GX470's came with factory air bags in the rear which are prone to leaking over time and can be very expensive to replace. 
 
This STAGE 3 KIT uses a STOCK HEIGHT SPRING for people who only want to replace the suspension airbags and keep their vehicle Stock height. For lift springs use the Stage 2 kit with a lift kit sold separately. 

The Metal Tech 4x4 GX470 rear coil conversion kit solves all these issues by removing the air bags and replacing with new stock height coil springs   We achieve this by reproducing what Toyota developed for the Toyota Prado, 4Runner, and FJ Cruiser rear suspension setup.  First there is a bolt on spring locator that mounts to the axle housing with a CNC machined UHMW springtail isolator that slips over for the bottom of the coil spring to rest on. Then we use a brand new US Made custom "Super" stock height coil spring with Key Cones that keeps the spring in place and acts as a secondary dual action spring when the axle comes in hard contact when coming off a ledge.
 
Super Stock Spring: We found that most GXs when converting to a stock height airbag need a little more spring than the stock Prado 120 rear spring.   So we took the OEM Toyota Prado 120 rear spring, and reproduced it in the US but added 5% additional spring rate but at the stock ride height.   Thus the Super Stock Spring was born and is now in all our Stage 3 kits. 

This rear coil conversion kit is designed to be used for people who want to get rid of their suspension airbags all together and go to a traditional coil spring at factory ride height.  This is kit is 100% bolt on with no additional modifications required. You will need to remove the fuse/relay inside the engine bay, as well as pulling the TEMS fuse in the dash

NOTE: The included springs in this Stage 3 kit are built to be replacements for "base" model GX460 rear coil springs.  This is the closest we can get to match what the GX470 would have if factory coils were used.   However with some of the GX470s one can feel them "bottoming" even with a non weighted truck.  This is actually the 150% larger frame bump stops hitting the axle first.  The GX470 airbag trucks have oversized frame mounted bump stops, vrs the OEM coilover trucks with a smaller height bump stop.    This about 1" of space can make quite a difference in travel.    This is an easy fix, to swap the rear frame mount bump stops to the coil versions.   You can get them from Toyota or from a local wrecking yard.  Any 2003 or newer 4Runner, FJ Cruiser or base model GX460 will have direct bolt on smaller bump stops that will work great.   Again not every truck needs these but know there is an easy solution if needed.
