1920s Sapphire and Diamond Ring. The rounded square-based pyramid shape of this ring coincides with a wave of Egyptian revival, inspired by the 1922 discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun, which swept through jewellery design in the mid-1920s. In a flurry of lotus palmettes, hieroglyphics, pyramids and animal-headed gods, the craze for all things Egyptian captured the imagination of some of the era’s great jewellery houses, including Cartier, Lacloche Frères and Van Cleef & Arpels. The design of this ring clearly draws its inspiration from this rekindled fascination with Egypt, modelled as a square-based pyramid covered by an intricate arrangement of cushion-shaped diamonds and step-cut sapphires, centring on a circular-cut diamond in an octagonal setting, its corners set with triangular onyx. A beautiful ring, full of detail, from the heart of the Art Deco era.

Why I love it...
“ What an outstanding piece of history! An incredible find, the design is exquisite and the craftsmanship is equally brilliant. Egyptian revival creations are so rare and make incredible looking rings. ”
