The John Benner Story

John Benner served 33 years in law enforcement as a police Lieutenant, Drug Task Force Coordinator, and SWAT Team Tactical Field Commander. As founder and President of Tactical Defense Institute (TDI), he observed that in violent conflicts, fine motor skills deteriorate while gross motor skills remain effective. After more than a year of prototypes and field testing, Benner designed a knife that could be drawn instinctively—like a pistol—using the same gross motor movements officers already train. The TDI knife has since saved lives in the field, including documented cases of officers using it to cut down suicide victims and defend against gun grabs.
