Maintenance & Installation Pro-Tips

• Grease is Key: When assembling, use a high-quality, water-resistant marine grease (like Lewmar Gear Grease) on the threads and moving parts. This prevents "galling" and makes future teardowns significantly easier.

• Inspect the Gypsy: While the drive cap is removed, inspect the "pockets" of your gypsy for wear. If the gypsy is heavily pitted or worn, the new drive cap may not seat perfectly.

• Spring Tension: Ensure the internal springs are seated correctly. If the free-fall isn't "tripping" correctly after installation, it is usually due to a slightly misaligned internal component.

• Annual Service: Lewmar recommends removing the drive cap annually to clean out salt deposits and re-grease the shaft and threads.
