A nice Mark Canfield (Red Willow & Co.) fly rod, 7'4", 2-piece, 2-tip, built for a #4 line. "The Phillips Usual" model. Serial #467. Used but very good condition. A very fast progressive action.  4.1 oz. A very well made rod with no seams, super varnish, and straight as a pin. 3-up node pattern with a heavy oven temper rendering the nodes dark and an overall cane color reminiscent of Phillipson. The wraps are copper color with orange and black jasper edges and extra bands of orange and orange black jasper at the keeper wrap and the male ferrules. Above the keeper there are three bands of copper and a band of jasper-copper-jasper and one more band of copper. The rod is mounted with an agate stripper and bronze snake guides. The swiss-style ferrules are oxidized black. The grip is a 5 1/2" long blunt cigar design, slightly weighted to the front and with a bit of light soiling. The reel seat is a cap and ring with nice mortised and varnished Koa wood. The butt cap is stamped "Red Willow and Co., M. Canfield, Rodmaker". "M. Canfield 'the Phillips Usual' " is artfully lettered on the wrap flat. The rod is packed in a tan cloth bag with a leather pull tab. The aluminum tube has a heavy threaded brass collar and top with a horseshoe and lettering "the Phillips Usual" and the serial #467 stamped on the top. The rod tube has a Red Willow data sticker attached to the top.
