A fascinating sermon preached just nine days after the beginning of formal hostilities on April 12, 1861. Delivered in Groton, Massachusetts, Bulkley laments the evil and suffering of War, but even moreso the evil of rebellion of the Confederate States and of slavery. Contains a very early charge issued directly to newly mustered troops to discharge their duty as consistent with Patriotism and their Christian faith, etc. The message again repeated on the 28th of April at the Union Hall. 

A footnote contains a rather early account, which Bulkely seems to have received first-hand, of the fall of Fort Sumter.
