A rather nice copy of the first edition of radical abolitionist, William Lloyd Garrison's poems on the abolition of the slave trade. Rare in the trade in any state, the present example also retains the ownership inscription of fellow abolitionist, and supporter of Frederick Douglass, David Joy. 

David Joy was a wealthy Nantucketer entrepreneur and fervent abolitionist who actively worked against slavery and for equal education for Black people. He was a co-founder of the Natucket Atheneum, where he routinely hosted and supported the work of famous abolitionists like Frederick Douglass, William Lloyd Garrison, and others. The volume perhaps received directly from Garrison as it apparently enjoyed rather small distribution when issued.
