A rather scarce anti-tobacco novel published at the height of the Civil War. Tobacco use is regularly compared to "slavery" in the text, and the obvious implications of non-tobacco use on the Virginia and Southern economies is not lost on the author.
It seems to have been published but once and is not available in the trade at the time of cataloging and we trace no examples at auction.

A good + copy, bound in cloth, lightly shaken, a bit pulled at the prelims, and toned throughout.
