Fascinating civil suit ledger for St. Johnsville and Oppenheim, New York dating from January of 1837 to March of 1839, complete in 372 small folio pages.

Most of the suits signed by the litigants, thus comprising an autograph book of many of the most prominent business persons and individuals in Montgomery and Fulton County, New York, viz. St. Johnsville, Oppenheim, Herkimer, etc. including the founding Zimerman [Zimmerman] family, Van Allens, John Cox, Patrick O'Tool, Harry Freeman, Alonzo Bentley, Isaac Chatfield, 

Suits involve debt on 5 yards of cloth [which was in court for near 2 years!]; a substantial number of suits over local indebtedness between vendors, customers and local businesses, or settlement of debts involving informal lending of money; trespassing; property damage; a special notice for the person suing for 38 cents; non-payment for beef delivery; property damage done by cattle and horses escaped from a property; non-payment of a military horse bridle; a fascinating case in which a woman sues a man for 10 years of labor [seemingly either a marriage or co-habitation gone south]; on the theft of a $50 gold watch; potato theft; backpayment for over a decade of medical bills; fraud in a horse trade; a loosely inserted letter from Justice B. Schram communicating about a case of petit larceny, a signed execution warrant for payment [printed and filled in by hand] for Montgomery, Co, St. Johnsville, New York for David Crouse; challenges of subpoenaing witnesses; 

Also a Revolutionary Claims certificate from the War Department, Revolutionary Claims office in favor of the claims of Elizabeth Zimmerman.
