A superb and rare original tall back adjustable lounge chair and ottoman designed by Arnt Lande for Stokke Fabrikker, Norway, circa 1960s — a masterwork of Norwegian Scandinavian Modern design bearing the original maker's plaque. One of the most refined and ergonomically sophisticated lounge chair designs of the mid-century era.
Arnt Lande was one of Norway's foremost furniture designers of the postwar period, and his collaboration with Stokke Fabrikker — the renowned Norwegian furniture manufacturer founded in Ålesund — produced some of the most elegant and technically accomplished Scandinavian seating of the 1960s. Stokke (now internationally known for their Tripp Trapp children's chair) was at the height of their design ambition in this era, producing furniture of exceptional quality for the Scandinavian and export markets. Lande's pieces for Stokke are increasingly collected internationally and appear on 1stDibs and at major Scandinavian design auction houses.
This example features the characteristic Lande/Stokke combination of a teak wood frame with beautifully tapered legs and swept armrests, an adjustable high back with chrome headrest hardware, and the original tan-to-brown striped upholstery. The matching ottoman completes the set. Signed with the original maker's plaque: "Stokke Fabrikker, Made in Norway."
Very good overall condition consistent with age and use. Two small pierced holes in upholstery near seat edge — minor and easily addressed by a reupholsterer. Minor oxidation to hardware. The teak frame is sound and presentable. Original upholstery is intact and functional.
