A beautiful early 20th century antique French Louis XVI style enfilade buffet handcrafted of mahogany by skilled artisans in Paris, circa 1920s, having a moulded edge white Carrara marble top with cookie cutter corners above four drawers over four panel doors featuring brass fillets, trim, and bagues, with the original brass circular handles and ribbon escutcheons. Supported on curved and fluted stiles and raised on six toupie feet with brass collars ending in brass sabots. This elegant enfilade with it's straight lines and turreted corners with brass bagues, provides excellent storage and a great surface for serving and display. The narrow depth of this versatile piece makes it perfect for a dining room, foyer, or hallway.
The French word "enfilade" in architecture refers to a series of salons or rooms, formally aligned with one another, that provide a sweeping view through the entire suite of rooms, where on one walked "on file" or "en filade." The enfilade served to organize space and vision and is a common feature found in many of France's grand palaces from the Baroque period. The term later became associated with large scale buffets that had more than two cabinet doors. When open, all of the doors reveal interior storage bisected by a shelf that effectively doubles the amount of usable space.
