A rather nice first American edition of Lewis' excellent work on grief, published immediately after the death of his wife, Joy Davidman. He wished to avoid the pain of having to discuss the book repeatedly in public, and therefore used the pseudonym, N. W. Clerk.
Clerk, N. W. [C. S. Lewis]. A Grief Observed. The Seabury Press. Greenwich, Connecticut. 1963. 60pp.
A very good copy, bound in cloth, and very solid. Pages are bright and clean, with minor penciling in a period hand. To vertical tears to the dustjacket, and two rather minor bits of residue from tape on the half title.
