Emerald and diamond ring, circa 1930. This ring is a superb example of 1930s Art Deco, when jewels became more three dimensional and substantial, while retaining the pure geometry of the preceding decade. This domed ring is constructed from a distinctly American combination of iridium and platinum, and painstakingly cut and tessellated emeralds and baguette diamonds, showcasing the increasingly varied and experimental cuts and setting styles that were becoming possible. The mint green Colombian emeralds are perfectly matched and remarkably clean, with only minor to insignificant clarity enhancement. This ring is an extraordinary survival of a golden age of jewellery design, and works as a distinctive statement piece for special occasions.
