Peas, Chickpeas, Flaxseed & Alfalfa Meal

Zignature® uses only the highest quality Legumes, Flaxseed & Dehydrated Alfalfa Meal to supply complex carbohydrates to your canine. Peas and Chickpeas are low glycemic legumes that are nutrient dense and highly digestible. Animal Protein First

Zignature® understands that dogs are carnivores first and omnivores second. Canines thrive with a large proportion of their diet from animal protein. Our recipes are high in protein because our first two ingredients will always be meat & meat meal or fish and fish meal. Our formula is easily digestible and provides optimum nutrition and energy. Glycemic Index & Excessive Carbohydrates

Potatoes are much higher on the Glycemic Index compared to Legumes. Excessive carbohydrates may contribute to unwanted weight gain over the lifetime of your canine.

Grains & Gluten Free

Grains & excessive carbohydrates can be more difficult for dogs to digest because many plant-eating animals (known as herbivores) possess one powerful weapon many carnivores (like dogs) usually lack - Salivary Amylase.

Amylase is a special enzyme most herbivores and omnivores (like us humans) produce in their saliva. It is needed to begin the breakdown of starchy carbohydrates into simple sugars before they enter the stomach.

Dogs produce amylase further down the digestive tract in the small intestine. A carnivore’s saliva is mostly amylase-free which makes carbohydrates more difficult for the canine to digest.

Gluten is what’s left over from certain grains (like wheat, corn or rice) that’s had all of its starchy carbohydrate (the good stuff) washed out of it. Glutens are less nutritionally complete than meat-based proteins and are more difficult to digest than meat. Glutens can raise the protein reported on a food label. Therefore, manufacturers frequently add them to a recipe to make a product look better than it really is. High protein grain free formulas help increase energy, provide a healthier coat, clearer eyes, and strengthens muscle development.

CHICKEN & EGG-FREE

More dog owners are starting to recognize that their dog may be allergic to chicken or eggs. This is due to the overuse of chicken & egg in the pet food industry. Almost every pet food products now contain some sort of chicken protein or fat.

Chicken & Egg Allergies

Dogs allergic to chicken and/or eggs may experience changes in the appearance or texture of their coat & skin after consuming or being exposed to chicken. These skin changes may include hives, a rash, redness or skin inflammation.

Antibiotics / Soy-fed

Antibiotics are often given to chickens to promote growth and keep them healthy, as they are often kept in tight pens with one another. Soy is rich in protein and is an economical way to feed chickens cheaply, but it is not what these animals were bred to eat.

Gastrointestinal Upset

Nausea, stomach cramps, constant gas, diarrhoea or vomiting may also occur as symptoms of a chicken allergy. These symptoms may occur within minutes or within hours of digesting chicken. An allergist can perform tests to confirm these symptoms.
