Any sighting of a Great Blue Heron adds joy to any wetland outing. But I particularly enjoyed this heron which stood in shallow water at the edge of the shoreline grasses, so intent on fishing that it barely moved. Due to the shape of the shoreline and the dense shrubbery along the trail, I walked quite close before I even noticed the bird. The heron never seemed to notice me so I got a wonderful view of its beautiful plumage, its rapt attention to fishing, and the reflections of the bare tree branches in the still lake waters, on a cold winter day.
