Dawson once thrived as a coal mining town in northeastern New Mexico, and by 1912 its Stags took the field in the Rocky Mountain League. Class D ball meant everything to towns like this, giving hardworking miners something to cheer for beyond the next shift. Dawson became a ghost town, but its baseball chapter deserves remembering.
Part of our Defunct Baseball collection, inspired by the vintage Minor League teams of yesteryear.
