A substantial and highly functional Mid-Century Modern modular wall unit in rosewood veneer with heavy chrome hardware, comprising four separate sections totaling approximately 126 inches wide × 79 inches tall × 23 inches deep. One section features a pull-down bar cabinet; the remaining sections offer a combination of lighted display shelves and drawers. All sides are finished, allowing flexible freestanding or wall-mounted placement.
The combination of richly grained rosewood veneer and sleek chrome hardware is characteristic of high-quality Central European and Scandinavian furniture production of the late 1950s and 1960s. While no maker's label has been identified, the quality of construction, hardware weight, and modular format are consistent with production from established German, Austrian, or Scandinavian workshops of the period — manufacturers such as Wittmann (Vienna), Behr, or major Danish makers who exported extensively to the European luxury market. The pull-down bar feature was a hallmark of sophisticated European entertaining furniture of the era.
Provenance adds meaningful context: this piece came from a Greenwich, Connecticut estate whose owners had relocated from Vienna, Austria, bringing with them a curated collection of period European furnishings and decorative objects. Vienna was one of the great centers of 20th-century furniture design, home to makers and designers working in the tradition of the Wiener Werkstätte and its successors. A Viennese origin for this piece — or a piece acquired during the Vienna years — would be consistent with its quality and character.
Pieces have been disassembled and shelving removed for transport — all sections and hardware are present.
