This exquisite pair of Staffordshire cats by the renowned William Kent beautifully captures the artistry of mid-20th-century English pottery. Crafted in the 1940s or early 1950s, these figures are seated gracefully on light blue cushions, their design enhanced by a delicate gold-speckled pattern on a bright white glaze. The result is a radiant yet understated elegance that brings vintage charm to any interior.
The surface features two distinct types of crazing—a soft, blueish mesh and fine white lines—adding depth and character to these timeless pieces. Interestingly, such crazing was sometimes deliberately created by potters to evoke the patina of age, lending their work an antique aesthetic.
William Kent, celebrated for his Staffordshire Ware creations, established his workshop in 1894 and became renowned for collectible ceramic figures cherished by both collectors and interior enthusiasts. Each figurine bears the William Kent backstamp: "Staffordshire Ware Kent Made in England," along with the iconic Staffordshire Knot, confirming their authenticity.
With their elegant gold detailing, graceful design, and charming cushions, these cats are perfect for anyone seeking unique vintage decor with a touch of history and sophistication.

(W) 6cm
(D) 5cm
(H) 10cm
Both pieces are in very good vintage condition. One cat has a tiny chip on the edge of the cushion’s base, which is not noticeable when the piece is displayed. The fine white crazing enhances their charm without detracting from their overall appearance, and the gold detailing remains vivid.
