A nice H.L. Leonard Fairy Catskill fly rod, 8', 3-piece, with 2-tips. 2.4 oz. Very slow action for a #2 or #3 line. Circa 1930's judging by the check and hardware. All full length and with very delicate tips. The rod has been refinished and rebuilt with a new grip (1/2" corks) and a new reel seat utilizing the original hardware. I obviously did not see this rod in the original state but the signature wraps do not follow the usual 3-1-15-1-3-1 pattern. The rod is outfitted with very small reverse twist snake guides conducive to a silk line (I suggest the interested buyer keep an eye out for a Hardy "Baby Bougle" with a 2 wt silk line mounted on the reel to be posted by the Spinoza team shortly - it's the perfect complement to this rod). The wrap colors are a dark maroon main with yellow edges at all the guides and ferrules. Signature wraps are mainly maroon with a few bands of yellow and all the intermediates are maroon. The cane is a light wheat straw oven temper with a three-up node pattern. Ferrules and hardware are polished bright and the ferrules are the antique pot belly style. The grip is 4 1/2" long in a medium cigar terminating in a large nickel silver check. The grip is composed of modern 1/2" corks and is fresh and 95% unsoiled. The seat wood is either pine or white cedar and looks to me to have been replaced. The but cap is diminutive, with barely enough space for the die stamp. The stamp reads "The HL Leonard Rod, Leonard and Mills Co, Makers". The ferrule fits are good. The bag is a replacement made out of dark grey cloth. The tube is original. It is very rare to find a full-length Catskill, refinished or not, and this one should find a new home quickly!
